A Famosa is the name of a tower built by the Portuguese after conquering Melaka in 1511. A Famosa part of Kota Melaka ( Fortaleza de Malaca ) which took 5 months to build. As a result of the scorching heat and lack of food, many forced laborers died while building the city. Materials to build the city were taken from the ruins of mosques and other buildings. The construction of the city of A Famosa under the direction of Alfonso de Albuquerque can be said to be a symbol of the resistance of the people of Melaka at that time, forcing the Portuguese to build a defensive city once they took control of the city of Melaka.
The river starts from the foothills in the neighbouring state of Negeri Sembilan and feeds into the Strait of Malacca. A USD$100 million (RM350 million) infrastructure project to revive and rejuvenate the river which is the central to Malacca as a historical city was carried out. This has included construction of a tidal barrage, restoration of buildings and bridges, dredging, concrete river banks with river walkways. Land reclamation projects have extended the river mouth further into the Straits. his river has two sources. The main source of Sungai Melaka is located at the end of the Titiwangsa Range in Tampin , Negeri Sembilan and flows as Sungai Tampin, and the second branch begins in Tebong , Alor Gajah district as Sungai Batang Melaka. These two rivers meet in Gadek , Alor Gajah district to form the Melaka River. This river has its own historical value because on the left and right of this river is a municipal area , a settlement, cemeteries , businesses , shipping , ports and others for hundreds of years.
