GUA IKAN, DABONG

Gua Ikan is the name of a cave complex at Bukit Batu Kapur about 5 km south of Dabong. There a number of caves here but most are not easy to access and it is recommended to engage a guide in order to appreciate the full extent of this complex. If there is no guide available at the cave complex it might be possible to hire someone from the nearby Gunung Stong State Park.

Gua Ikan, which means Fish Cave, is thought to be so-named because a stream flows inside, which may be home to fish. I have a different theory. When approaching on highway 66 from the direction of Dabong I noticed that the limestone hill structure containing the caves appeared to be fish-shaped.Open daily. No fixed opening hours.Entrance is free.

AIR TERJUN, LATA BERANGIN

Based on studies from the old people who are the original inhabitants of Lata Rek, the name Lata Rek comes from the Orang Asli language. Cascade means a rapids where there is a stretch of rocks that stretches wide and Rek means water that flows and descends from a high place. The combination of the words Lata and Rek means water that flows and falls from a high rock crevice that produces a sound like rek-rek. Lata Rek is located in Mukim Lata Rek in Olak Jeram District. The village here is also known as Kampung Kedondong which was taken in conjunction with the original village of the settlement of the residents from Kampung Kedondong, Pasir Mas. But due to the presence of the Waterfall, the name Lata Rek is more synonymous and famous.

Facilities available near Lata Rek are such as Lata Rek Mosque and Lata Rek National School located in Kampung Lata Tual in Mukim Lata Rek about 2.7km from the waterfall area. Surau Ummu Zainab is the closest to the waterfall about 500 meters from the waterfall. This surau was built after Bah Kuning 2014 by donors after the original wooden surau collapsed and was badly damaged during the 2014 floods. The original surau site was replaced with a new concrete surau building funded by donors after the flood with toilet and bathroom facilities.
